This track is not very well maintained and it was quite hard to find our way up the Mountain. But the view was worth it! We followed the road uphil to the first row of power poles and turned left. Shortly before the next pole (the one made from metal) you can see some open areas up the hill and we made our path there between the bushes. There are some nice rocks to sit on and enjoy the view right below the top on the lake side.
Very nice point of view at 360 on arrival! Allow 1 to 1 hour 30 minutes to climb to reach the summit. Attention, the arrival is not indicated: pass the high voltage lines and continue to climb, the path turns left, arrived at the top of it do not go down and turn left. The view is great!
Yes it is a steep walk but perfectly doable. We did it in a sunny and dry day and the views from the summit are stunning. Worth the time and energy spent.
We enjoyed the walk. Dry landscape (February) with views on lake, vineyards, hills and mining activities. Beware, the « top » of the mount is not well indicated. We kept going until we had climbed 400m. Once you are at the High Voltage cables and new entry to the Bendigo Scenic Reserve, you are already too far. If you stay at the Bendigo Freedom camp, you should consider this walk.
I don’t understand why people are saying it’s not worth it... Yes it was quite steep but I wouldn’t say it’s not worth it. The views are beautiful and it’s not that hard. We did it in 1.5 hours!
Don’t listen to the moaners below! Yes this is a very steep hike but the views are gorgeous and there are plenty of places for a swim in the area once you finish. The views are great but we had particularly good weather. I wouldn’t consider myself fit and we made it in 1 hr 5 minutes on the way up (2 hrs in total). Coming down is steep! So good support/hiking boots recommended.
Definitely in our personal top 10 of the tramps we did in New Zealand. Just insanely beautiful. And no, it's not too hard, we did it in less than two hours.
Very nice track. It is good in the meantime uphill, but there are much more strenuous Walks. If you arrive at the campsite in the afternoon and still have some time for the way you should do it. The view is really great!
