Didn’t actually stay here, but opposite fronting the main lake there are freedom camping spots for self contained campers not shown on CamperMate. From there you can have a swim and they were much more secluded.
Amazing DOC site right by the lake with plenty of spots and clean-ish flush toilets. There’s a dump station by the toilets and potable water taps. Great Spark signal - strong enough for video calls. You’re just across the road from Lake Ohau which is much quieter but equally as pretty as Pukaki and Tekapo. You can stay for 4 nights with a DOC pass.

An update! Beautiful stay for two nights, lovely location, flushing toilets, dump station for toilet cassette (not grey water). Great base for some wonderful cycling up beyond Lake Ohau ?.
What a sad place to see, will take a while before the campsite will be up and running again. Lake frozen over

This campground is closed at the moment, logging is going on removing trees since the Ohau fire.
Lovely area with fantastic views, very peaceful. Thanks DOC for these perfect spots to Freedom camp
