The ford on the gravel road leading to the trailhead seemed too deep and muddy, so we didn't go. Maybe it got deeper after flooding or something.
Definitely worth the drive along the gravel road! Managed it absolutely fine in a small camper, the road is very well maintained. The walk was lovely with plenty of bays down to the sea and beautiful views from the lookouts. We made it a round trip and it was worth the hike up the mountain bike track! Incredible!!
The gravel road that leads to this hike is long and tiring. And frankly, the hike is not worth it. Nice hike, but nothing more. There is really better to do in NZ. Okay.
Worth noting it’s 30km gravel road leading up to Port Jackson! Small campers may struggle for 30km.. Just a note ?
Great hike/ walk. Views all along the cliff tops to bays and islands. A few steep ravines in KM 2-4, then pretty easy going path. Stony Bay is a great stop off to chill out in the shade of the trees.
A wonderful hike! I advise you to do it but to be prepared because it rises a lot! Not insurmountable but climbs anyway!
This hike is overhyped. It's beautiful yes, but really what hike in New Zealand isn't? The 30km gravel road is poor foreplay and the real business reflects that. The fuel prices and worn nerves overshadowed the walk. Do some coastal tramping on Aucklands west coast beaches instead.
Wonderful hike, the best one in the Coromandel with Pinnacles and Cathedrale Cove. Did it in the low season, that was more than georgous. Go for it and enjoy it !
Superb hike! Very well indicated! magnificent views! we left stony bay through the path of Mtb (500 m elevation gain) and then returned by the coastal walkway (300 m elevation gain) under a bright sun it was beautiful !! with a swim halfway to embellish the hike ?
Great walk, go there when the weather is nice and do not hesitate to do the loop to strengthen your buttocks, thighs and calves.
