The place where the fellowship goes to shore can be seen wonderfully. In the forest you can see the hill where the uruk-hai come running down. We didn't find no ribbons though.
Hard to get to down a very long gravel road, took us about an hour in our campervan. Definitely worth it though.
Those who have seen the films a dozend of times will immediatly recognize the film location :) There are those orange arrows to mark the track though... that only accidentally indicate the film location. You find these orange things on any track in NZ. :)
As a LOTR-fan I would have been disappointed since no place in the forest is really special, you can't see any ribbons and the forest in general looks like any forest in that region. As a normal traveller I would be enthusiastic though, because the location is really stunning. So you should come to this place and enjoy the nice setting. And don't even try to find the film set, the description of it in the last comment is not correct.
A really great spot! Turn on the location at your mobile and just walk directly to the designated area. Turn around once you are there and walk about 50m into the forest. There, orange ribbons are tied to some of the trees, and this is were the film was shot :-)
