Ignore Google Maps when it directs you to the toilet block next to the railway line at Mingela off the Flinders Highway. Keep following the road and head towards Ravenswood on the Burdekin Road for about 8 minutes until you come to a property with predominately blue buildings - THIS is Grass Hut Station. Plenty of camping spots for tents and camper trailers, a limited number of powered sites but plenty of space. Cost us $24 for an unpowered spot (2 adults and 2 kids) and amenities include toilets, hot showers, fire drums, peace and quiet and bison. Yes, bison! Owner was just feeding them while we were setting up so the kids got a real treat. Not a well know camping spot for the traveller but they have campdraft here. Charters Towers is about 60klms to the west, Townsville about the same to the east. Ravenswood is another 35 klms down the road - old gold mining town.
