Beau site Nous avons campé ici pendant 6 jours.
German Sheppard, Black Labrador and Hunterway from across river at low tide came into camp growling at me and my small dog!!! I had to use stick to move them on.... Visitors abide by rules ... Are the locals exempt???
permanent water boil warning. A few benches. Quiet spot at least for a quick nap
You have good reception, a few benches and also a few rubbish bins, but the toilets are a joke for the money charged. Worst value for money I've ever experienced at a NZ campsite.
Nice quiet spot away from traffic and towns. It’s a bit of a trek off the beaten track but worth it.
Beautiful out of the way spot. Really quiet at this time of year.Fee per night can be paid at the toilet block through envelop/iron maiden system. Time your visit with appropriate low tides to enjoy a walk along the beach, a combination of gravel and sand sections.
Nice spot with mostly even ground. As others note, there is not beach as such, you park next to Motunau river, which you can get down to at the far end. Toilets block was clean and had soap and paper, though neither men’s or women’s doors can be locked. Cellphone reception was perfect with full 4G coverage at the camp on both Spark and 2degrees. It’s a short walk over a small hill to the beach, around where the river mouth is. As others noted, there’s no stores/shops at all and you are 15km from the main road. The road in is quite bendy and narrow so be prepared to take it slow in larger vehicles.
The campsite has a flush toilet and running water at the sink. The location is very quiet, about 5 minutes walk to the sea. From the highway you drive 15km to the square. There is absolutely nothing on this route and in the village itself. We haven't even seen people yet. The place makes a very bleak and deserted impression. There is no cell phone reception at the square itself, but you should walk a few meters down the street. For the price, the space is absolutely okay
Great free camping by the sea. We camped around the headland so we had some of the sea coming through in the bay during high tie. Last stop on our road trip in this amazing country. Donations are requested around the facilities. Good bathrooms with flush toilet. No sand flies!
