At low tide, we drove 40 kilometers across the beach (no problem even without 4WD). An unforgettable experience and highly recommended!!! This brought us to the campground, where we were completely alone due to the circumstances. There are two toilets, two cool showers, and even soap. For $10, it's a great campground!
All the roads to this campground are private. Only way to reach it is via 90miles beach!!
What a nice spot for enjoying the view of beach & sunset. Well if u got a 2WD vehicle only, just try not to drive down the beach since the sand is too soft. My car was trapped in the sand. It was like 19:30, no cellphone signal, nobody else but myself, heavy raining... Dont ask me how i survived...
Hidden jewel! Unique experience going through the gold coin gate and exploring to a primitive campground and beach. Wild horses, surf, and a flush toilet you have to haul water to (Find the spring fed tub south of the toilet).
Absolutely amazing place. Uncrowded and beautiful spot right next to the beach, but protected a little from wind by small sand dunes. There is a rocky point with tide pools and supposed to be waves sometimes on both sides of the rock point. Take Te Ahu Rd (maps will tell you to go down a private rd, just go a little further north) then when you see the lake there is a gate with a sign that says "beach access, gold coin entry" so give a coin and go through the gate down the gravel road until you reach the campground. Road has potholes and there is some soft sand you have to drive through. Barely made it in our Nissan Homy. Large campervans might not make it?
Small and cosy campsite. Outdoor shower. The toilet isn't that nice. Rather go behind a scrub. The water filter is a great plus.
