Quand nous sommes allés, c'était très calme, un endroit magnifique et bien entretenu. Il y avait quelques travaux de maintenance le long de la route lorsque nous revenions le matin, et la route était fermée pour ceux qui allaient là. Quand nous sommes allés, c'était autour de 5pm et la route était ouverte. Notre voiture n'est pas 4WD, mais avec soin et tant qu'il n'y a pas de pluie, il est géré.
La route est OK pour un petit camper le prenant lentement. Nous l'avons fait dans un Sprinter de 7m - mais nous ne recommandons pas cela si vous venez de prendre un de l'aéroport et ne connaissez pas les véhicules plus grands. Esp en haute saison. Les 20 derniers km sont non scellés, serrés et vous pouvez à peine vous détourner... et ne pouvez pas vous retourner jusqu'à mi-chemin - au point où vous avez fait la partie difficile.
Ce camping est étonnant. Nous avons conduit la nuit donc ce n'était certainement pas aussi facile de monter sur la route mais cela en vaut la peine. Nous conduisons un haut haut hiace avec NO 4WD et nous l'avons pris lentement. La route est pavée à la moitié du chemin puis la route de la saleté mais ont fait face à pire. L'un des meilleurs campings que j'ai été et sera de retour en été!
L'un des meilleurs campements gratuits que j'ai jamais été! La nature est si paisible, agréable, les montagnes autour du camp! La toilette était très propre! La route n'était pas si mauvaise que les gens ont écrit dans les commentaires précédents. Je recommande certainement! Peel Ridge (5km) est une bonne randonnée et vous pouvez continuer à Lake Peel randonnée (5km)
C'est débordant et beau, mais je ne pense pas qu'il en vaut la peine.
Really nice camp area. The long drop toilet was very clean while we were there. Road was well maintained few pot holes, typical kiwi road. We took a 2wd Van and really enjoyed our time. Sandflies were very intense in the morning but dropped away in the evening. Recommend taking your own firewood as there wasn't much dry wood around. Would definitely stay here again
Road in really poor condition . Very hard unless 4x4 vehicle. Definitely NOT for campervan or low clearance 2wd cars. Lots of slips and large rocks have fallen on the road. Campsite very muddy due to rain and someone has done wheelies all over the campsite and ripped it up. Great wilderness area otherwise. Toilet a smelly long drop. River water only source of water. Wekas will steal anything you put down for a. Moment cheeky sods
Pros: Beautiful spot nestled away in the mountains and I would say it is worth the drive in like others have said. Spectacular walks all around, and I recommend the Peels Ridge with beautiful views looking right up the valley. We were pretty much on our own every night except for 1 other camper who set up on the other side of the camp. Cons: We were in our 2WD L300 van and had to take it real easy on the very unsealed and pothole-ridden roads. There are quite literally thousands and thousands of sandflies, especially as it rained for 2 of the 3 days we were there. It was very humid too, so our van got very condensated and we ended up having to leave early so we could dry it out somewhere else. Overall it is a beautiful spot, but if you can try to go in nice weather as the rain makes everything soaked. And also bring insect repellent; you'll need it!
Awesome camping spot! Drop toilet was quite clean but a bit smelly. The road up is steep and can get quite corrugated and you will find quite a few potholes on your way ? Should be easy with a 4WD, take enough time with a 2WD
This place is Magic! Highly recommend if you are competent on NZ gravel roads. So many walks to keep you busy, we stayed 3 nights and definitely could have stayed longer.
