Road is good, canp ground under big trees, there are toilets and running non potable water. There are a few trails you that start here. We stopped a few hundred meters before the canp ground there is an open space with view on the ocean, there were other vans there too
Parking with a few uneven spaces, but the road is easily passable by van, so don't worry. The toilets are a bit old but do the job. No drinking water. We didn't stay overnight, but it seemed very peaceful. The hikes starting from this parking area are nice.
Dont be deterred by the negative wimps. 6m bus was very easy to drive in & camp under the mighty redwoods. Clean, toilets basic but maintained. Cool walks in the bush on well marked DoC tracks. 2½ hr loop track back to carpark. Turn off onto Upper Ahu Ahu Road. Keep it clean & quiet, dont spoil a brilliant freebie!
Much further up the road than map says. Narrow road and very secluded. Car park is very small area and more like a gap in the trees.
Amazing spot for a small van. We had lunch here and went for a walk. Would have returned to stay the night but wanted to be closer to New Plymouth after seeing the Festival of Lights!
Didn’t find the camping spot -.-
Adventurous day! Wish we had read the reviews first! 7m & 7.7m motorhome went for a look - more than a little tight and heart stopping- newbies- & would not camp here
No more rats here, it’s secluded, no reception but not a lot of people come here so it was dead! Nice spot under the redwoods to getaway. 5 minute drive to the beach for some surf
