Agree that the heaps of pinnacles you see from the riverbed are even more impressive than those few from the lookout above. But sure do both angles!
Nice to see :) but not during a weekend. So busy
Very neglected path that often leads over a river. Reached the mountains after about an hour. Very impressive, unfortunately the spot from the film was not recognized.
It's a really amazing place but don't take this GPS coordinates take the ones from the pinnacles....
If you want to see the pinnacles, there are two walks tracking, choose the right one crossing the "river". It's also faster to go to the lookout
One of the coolest places in New Zealand for sure. A must wether you’re a fan of the movies or not!
Fun walk to do along the stream bed, especially after a bit of rain. You will most likely get your feet wet though as you do have to cross the river a few times. You can get to the base of the Pinnacles via the lookout route if the river is too high. The Pinnacles are amazing and I think it's almost better to visit on a cloudy/wet day because it adds to their eery atmosphere with the low cloud moving in and out of the top of the Pinnacles. It's very much like the movie and you can see why they chose it as a filming location.
Awesome feel to the whole place. We took the path on the right, all the way along the river (if you lose the path just keep following the river) until it becomes impassable, at this point there will be another smaller stream coming from your left up another gravelly riverbed (should be obvious as the only way to go). Up there are the pinnacles and half way up there on the left (going up) is a path leading to the lookout then you can loop along the ridge back to the carpark .Took us about 2 hours for it all, loved all of it!
Really great, looks like in the movie..You have to follow from the Parklatz the riverbed and then you come after about 1 hour. If you cancel before you do not see much but at the end of the valley, it is really like in the movie
