A good place to overnight at I dint recommend staying in large moto homes or caravans as sites are very small suitable for cars and small vans. I seen two motohomes collided in the camping area as they were to big to turn around without hitting parked vehicles. Cold water in public shelter for drinking and dishes. One toilet at back of shelter very dirty I recommend public toilets near train station that are a short walk away. No power in Public shelter at camping ground it was cut off.
Decent enough site. Several sites to choose from on pavement, gravel or grass near the chain link fence near train tracks. Large covered shelter w/sink w/hot water (takes awhile to warm up when cold out.) Close enough to bathrooms that have hot water so you can bird bath if needed. Otherwise, there are public showers less than five minute walk away near town. Trains & some trucks went by all night making some noise but overall not too bad & slept thru most of it. Very nice rangers.
Rangers are friendly in the office, easy to access and find parking. Toilets, shelter with tables and washing sinks. Can pay overnight fees in box attached to shelter. Cell signal is very good here due to antenna right by office
Shelter located at the end of the car park (behind the DOC office). Features outdoor picnic tables, flush toilets with a small sink, and rubbish bins attached to the building. Inside, there are kitchen sinks and tables. Good mobile signal. We didn't stay the night, but there were tents on the grass outside. Great spot! Note: On the main street, further north of the shelter, there is a small cabin with a hot shower for $2. It's in good condition, with hangers inside and a small bench outside.
Unfortunately, there is only a car park with a toilet and a shelter. The shelter is large and practical. The freight train passes by regularly and is noisy. Overall, it is too expensive and too noisy if you want to go hiking early in the morning.
We enjoyed our night here! The actual camp area is not the cosiest (next to rail lines as others have said) but the surrounding area is gorgeous and the facilities are decent (big shared shelter and flushing toilet). Would recommend! It was pretty busy (mid January).
sleeping at the train station on the asphalt and pebbles😶 and at road other side.A lot of kea (parrots). Toilets here. I dont like it... 18nz
Nice Doc camping right in village and doc info office right in front $18 a person but I had a doc camp pass so no charge .Nice lodge to cook in with 2 power points .for charging devices .It behind railroad area so can be noisy at night use ear plugs .Leave your vehicle there and walk to punchbowl falls about 1 km to carpark for walk I stayed 3 days Saw 3 kea near lodge so don't feed them
18$ per person when you don’t have water, dump station electricity or showers, anyway
