Great track through the forest! It does get steep and is longer so bring a decent level of fitness. Very wet and slippery when we went up so good shoes will help avoid wet feet. The summit is around 1200m I believe

Amazing views. Had the chance to see Mt Taranaki (North Island) peaking over the clouds! Track is tough and very entertaining, through the forest, a lot of roots and a bit of mud. DOC time indicates 5hrs. Did it in 1h30 + 20min photo break, try to beat it ;) Long gravel road to get there (30-45min).

It's really nice! The view is amazing and the walk thoroug the forest as well. If you are "normal"fit go for it! We met there two families with young kids. So it's absolutely feasible.

Very nice track with stunning views of the islands. We needed 1h 45 for the ascent and 1h 15 for the descent. Very exhausting, but worth it!

I’ve been wanting to do this hike since I’ve moved to NZ last year. Totally worth it. We had a gorgeous clear day. It took us 1.5 hours up and got down in 1 hour 22 minutes. So pretty even. We are average fitness level. Most of the hike is covered which is nice on hot summer day. Then, boom! You hit the summit. It’s breathtaking. We were the only ones up there, too. NZ’s hidden gem.

What a nice walk. It’s only about 70km from Picton but it took me about 2h just to drive there. As for the track it is as described, constantly steep among hundreds of tree roots. The track is visible (in clear dry weather at least) but markers are sometimes welcome. It starts to level out as you near the top and then you get magnificent views. My Taranaki and Ruapehu can also be spotted! Took me just over an hour to go up (and got really sweaty!) and about the same on the way down. If you’re fit enough and the weather is clear don’t hesitate too much.

One of the best views I've had in the south island! I'm a strong hiker and managed to summit in just under an hour, so it can be done! The clouds put me off at the bottom, but I was on top of them at the peak. I did it for sunset (which was beautiful), but I'd suggest that 1-2 hours before is perfect to get the light, especially if you want to avoid a tricky descent in the dark.

A fantastic hike. I definitely recommend the track to everybody who is looking for a big challenge and who wants to be rewarded by a fantastic view at the top. The track was really steep and slippery so put on your hiking shoes and try to enjoy the track up to the summit even if it’s really exhausting. The forrest you are hiking threw has got something magical and while doing a break it‘s a pleasure to enjoy this. At the top our views were not that good because of many clouds but we decided to wait there for some minutes and after one hour the views were just breathtaking. Be careful while going down. It’s really slippery and wet. A perfect hike for people who don‘t want to do the whole „Queen Charlotte Track“ but nevertheless want to have have as fantastic views. A challenge for your mind and your body with a big reward.

A super hike of 4h return from the night for the sunrise. This trip is definitely worth the effort! NB: The roots and rock are very slippery in all weather. If you try to leave from eight sleep rather free camp which is 30min the car park is narrow and inclined! Good walk !!!
