So pretty! The road was all right in beginning June. Scenic drive !
It is a great view all along the road BUT (!!!) even if the first fiords don’t seem like being very deep, it’s getting deeper and deeper. We failed crossing the last one, had no phone reception out there and after hitchhiking back (we’ve been really lucky that another car was around) we just got the message that aa doesn’t cover us out there. So it was quite an act (and expensive as well) to get somebody for towing us out... I just wanted to mention that, because just for seeing a paddock called Isengard, it wasn’t really worth it. Just keep that in mind, be really careful ( and slow!!! We made a huge mistake by racing through it...) during crossing the fiords or maybe just choose to walk to the film location.
Genial what seen! Yes it's a travel road but its going we were in Van we stopped before a change to gay it remains 2km we finished cycling but on foot it is possible also very beautiful landscape and what seen isengar! I recommend!
Worth it. Happy it was hard to get to as no one was there. A few hints: 1. There are many many cattle guards so ignore that comment. 2. Had to ford many creeks/small rivers. One car 2 door 2wd got stuck in water and had to call AA and was still there when I came back several hrs later (water floods the engine and kills it or the battery). For this reason the Last creek I chose not to cross due to depth and walked the road. 3. Use the instructions regarding paradise and Drive until the DOC tells you not to. Then another 30 min walk on the trail. 4. When you see the second waterfall around the bluff you are there. If its super cloudy it may not be visible. That’s all I’ll say as this SHOULD be hard to get to but the scenery is worth it and it matches the movie. It may cost you a car.
This location at dans paddock is in the first movie near the beginning after Gandalf leaves the shire and rides the chestnut horse down through dans paddock from right to left at a gallop towards Isengard But not the location of the tower itself that’s is down the road at the dart river valley to get to dans paddock you drove past it
Road with some streams to cross but quite feasible with our van Mitsubishi L300 (attention after the rain ..). Landscaping great Isengard with great mountains whose hollow in the cliff corresponding to the dam destroyed by the Ents.
Drive to or through Paradise. Despite rainy weather, it was worth it to drive to the end of the road.
Walked for hours all the way to the impassable river. If isenguard was by the cattle stop as comments say then its a big field of nothing. The area is beautiful and you can kind of guess its isenguard by the snow topped peaks in the background where gandalf and crew are forced to turn around by sarumans spells, but there's no other sign of isenguard there
Definitely more beautiful than Franz and Fox. The drive and the journey there are truly worth it; one of our top 10 places in New Zealand!
At first we were very skeptical as to whether our car could handle it. But in the end our station car (which we don't even know if it has a 4W drive) did the trick. Very beautiful landscape and lots of sheep on the side of the road. Definitely worth it! I recognized the location from a screenshot, and I would recommend that anyone who wants to go there take a sample photo with them.
