My favourite hike so far in NZ! We're both pretty fit and it took us 6.5 hours return (plus breaks) from the bottom of the gondola. You can also get the gondola partway up and walk the rest of the way. The track is well maintained and easy to follow between the top of the gondola and the Ben Lomond saddle. Its a bit rougher from the saddle to the summit, and from the bottom of the gondola to the top (which is called the tiki trail). It can also get quite chilly at the top!
Started this down by the street, but you can take the gondola to the actual start of the track. The way up to the track took me 1 hour and was quite steep. Once you reach the top you will have a beautiful 360 view. The whole track took me 5 hours and I’m not a super fit person.
Nice hike to do in the day. Beautiful views of Queenstown.
Myself and my boyfriend climbed Ben Lomond today, we started the walk at Lomond Crescent which was a nice walk through the trees (we’re both ginger so we were happy for the shade in the hot morning sun) the hike up to the summit and back took us 4hours 35minutes. We boosted it and now paying for it? Nevertheless, it’s such a beautiful hike, rather physically demanding on the last hurdle up to the summit, but it’s all worth it for that 360 view at the tippy top?
I have found a headphones on the track. Msg +64272611301 And same feels about the track as other people. ?
One of the most spectacular views, but also one of the most demanding hikes we’ve done in NZ.YOU SHOULD BE FIT,it is not easy, especially the last hour is steep rocky climb-take hiking shoes.Doable in 6-7 hours with breaks. We left car at Lomond Crescent, walked up to Midway Clearing and from here joined the Ben Lomond track.NOTE:There are many bike routes at Midway Clearing,we could not find the Lomond Track firstly-our tip-at this crossroad follow the big “Skyline” road only for few more meters, then turn left to the forest,go directly by the sign saying watch out for bikers..We got a bit lost as well as other people here..Also make sure you watch out for the mountain bikers, they are really fast here!Take enough water, snacks and warm clothes for the top(it is chilly).. Enjoy!
I loved this track. The view is amazing. I cheated and took the Gondola cause I was a bit late. It took 4h 20 min for me -medium fitness level, Foto stops and rest included. I wouldn't recommend to do it on a rainy day.
Great hike with great views. We started from Lemond Cresc. There and back about 6 hours. However we did not find a circular route. Head up over the Skyline Road to the gondola top station and then the Ben Lemond Track. To the saddle a simple mountain hike on a wide path and for everyone feasible. From the saddle exhausting, steeper and a little surefootedness needed. View above is awesome. Was snow free in mid-November.
Mid winter so didn’t do the Ben Lomond track however we walked the tiki trail from instead of taking the gondola Uphill and it is a workout to the top But the Views are amazing, much more fun and saves you paying the over priced gondola! Took us 40 minutes up and 40 minutes back down. Nice way to spend a sunny day
Don't start this track too late! The path can be very slippery and muddy when the sun comes out and the frozen earth starts melting!
