Ottimo posto, lunghi bagni sono stati abbastanza puliti. Siamo arrivati nel tardo pomeriggio e non abbiamo avuto problemi per ottenere un posto piatto sul lago.

Super free camp on the shore of Poaka lake. A huge number of spots on flat ground. All types of camping allowed. Very quiet with view of the mountains including Mount Cook in clear weather. There are also 2 dry toilets at the campground.

Il campeggio stesso è bello, ma purtroppo abbiamo avuto un'esperienza molto spaventosa durante il nostro soggiorno. Intorno alle 10:30, le rocce sono state gettate sulla nostra furgonetta, ci hanno risvegliato. Circa 10 minuti dopo, una macchina spaventosa è arrivata e ha circondato la nostra furgonetta prima di parcheggiare nelle vicinanze e spegnendo le luci. Gli occupanti poi sono usciti con una torcia e hanno iniziato a camminare verso la nostra furgonetta. Siamo stati estremamente spaventati, quindi ho chiamato la polizia. Alla fine, ci siamo sentiti così scomodi e insicuri che abbiamo deciso di lasciare.

Bellissimo campeggio. Gratuito. Carico di spazio. Il bagno a goccia era abbastanza pulito. La mattina sul lago è piacevole. L'unica cosa che dirò è forse non parcheggiare troppo vicino alla prima area con il banco da picnic vicino all'acqua, siamo stati svegliati da un gruppo di turisti (aspetto come qualche tour fotografico) prendendo foto proprio fuori dal nostro boot 😂 per il tramonto.

Long gravel path and steep decent to campsite. Smelly long drops, beautiful surroundings

DOC spacious with many locations on the edge of a lake. To access it by gravel road on 2/3 km but it is done without problems. Only weak point, there are 2 toilets which is widely enough but it could really a lot, he should come clean them (it becomes urgent 😅)

Best site we have done. no shower but large enough, quiet and beautiful.

Around 10:40 pm last night someone vandalized multiple tents including ours.

Didn’t feel safe. At midnight someone is coming and stealing your belongings. Be very careful and aware, catch those bustards

Spacious, peaceful campsite with plenty of room for turning large vehicles. Nestled beside a pretty lake with a canal right behind it. Stunning views across to Aoraki/Mt Cook. Stay on the gravel canal road until you've passed most of the campsite before turning into it. Lake Wardell on the other side of SH8 looked lovely too but is closer to the road.
