The Outback Trail Day 2 The Gully Sessions

 The Gully  is one of Queensland's oldest hotels. 
 
The pub license was issued in 1864 after operating as shearer's accommodation for the Nindigully Station. From the late 1800s the Nindigully Pub was a Cobb and Co coach change over station.

Today, the pub still stands in its original condition and position. Located on the banks of the Moonie River, the pub has become a favourite watering hole and camping spot amongst locals and travellers.

Nindigully offers hot showers and toilets at the historic pub free of charge. Plenty of camping and caravan space is available along the Moonie river. Patronage at the pub or donation for the upkeep of facilities is requested.

 The Gully ist eines der ältesten Hotels in Queensland. Die Pub-Lizenz wurde 1864 ausgestellt, nachdem das Hotel als Schafschererunterkunft für die Nindigully Station betrieben wurde. Ab Ende des 19. Nindigully Tourist and Visitor Free Camping Area

The Boomerangs at Nindigully were originally constructed for Hugh Jackman’s 1999 feature film debut, Paperback Hero.  Filmed in Nindigully, the Boomerangs were from the movie’s Boomerang Cafe.  

While the Nindigully Pub is a well-known stop for travellers, its annual pig races and road train burgers, few know about its history in film. Nindigully was selected as the filming location by writer and director, Antony J Bowman.  Bowman travelled through New South Wales and Queensland to locate the exact place where the story of Paperback Hero would unfold.  

To honour the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the film’s release, the iconic Boomerangs were brought back to life in 2019 with St George artist and descendant of Kamilaroi nations, Yuwulaaraary Euahlayi and Bigambul, Barry “Rainman” Boland transformed the sculptures to their full glory.

The Boomerangs at Nindigully

The Gully Walk – a purpose-built historical river walkway – offers nomads the perfect opportunity to enjoy a self-paced walk through Nindigully’s riverside bushland. The walk was developed by the Balonne Shire Council to ensure that the heritage, culture and environment of Nindigully was preserved while creating an area for visitors to enjoy the beautiful bush surrounds.

The 500m cement path meanders between stately gums on the banks of the Moonie River. Through interpretive signs, nomads can see what life used to be like in the bush in the pioneering days and get to know some of the characters who shaped the area. 

When there is water in the river, this lively bird habitat is teeming with life and a stroll along the path is a perfect way to reconnect with nature. Keen anglers will also find it the perfect place to drop a line.

Der Gully Walk – ein eigens dafür errichteter historischer Flusswanderweg – bietet Nomaden die perfekte Gelegenheit, einen Spaziergang im eigenen Tempo durch das Buschland am Flussufer von Nindigully zu unternehmen. Der Spaziergang wurde vom Balonne Shire Council entwickelt, um sicherzustellen, dass das Erbe, die Kultur und die Umwelt von Nindigully erhalten bleiben und gleichzeitig ein Bereich geschaffen wird, in dem Besucher die wunderschöne Buschlandschaft genießen können. Der 500 m lange Betonweg schlängelt sich zwischen stattlichen Gummibäumen am Ufer des Moonie River. Anhand von Hinweisschildern können Nomaden sehen, wie das Leben im Busch in der Pionierzeit aussah, und einige der Charaktere kennenlernen, die die Gegend geprägt haben. Wenn der Fluss Wasser hat, wimmelt es in diesem Lebensraum voller Leben von Vögeln und ein Spaziergang entlang des Weges ist die perfekte Möglichkeit, wieder mit der Natur in Kontakt zu kommen. Begeisterte Angler finden hier auch den perfekten Ort, um ihre Angel auszuwerfen.

Le Gully Walk – une passerelle fluviale historique spécialement construite – offre aux nomades l&#39;occasion idéale de profiter d&#39;une promenade à votre rythme à travers la brousse au bord de la rivière de Nindigully. La promenade a été développée par le Balonne Shire Council pour garantir la préservation du patrimoine, de la culture et de l&#39;environnement de Nindigully tout en créant un espace permettant aux visiteurs de profiter du magnifique environnement de brousse. Le chemin cimenté de 500 m serpente entre des gommes majestueuses sur les rives de la rivière Moonie. Grâce à des panneaux d&#39;interprétation, les nomades peuvent voir à quoi ressemblait la vie dans la brousse à l&#39;époque des pionniers et faire connaissance avec certains des personnages qui ont façonné la région. The Gully Walk

The Watering Hole Mural was painted on the Thallon GrainCorp Silos in July 2017, by Artists Joel Fergie (The Zookeeper) and Travis Vinson (Drapl). It depicts icons of the Thallon district using a compilation of images by local photographers. 

These include The Moonie River,  Pale Faced Rosellas, the district’s agricultural heritage, and a scarred tree recognizing Thallon’s Indigenous Community, all set against the backdrop of a stunning Western Queensland Sunset. 

Parking, a viewing platform and interpretative sign are located adjacent to the silos just off Thallon’s Campground, which includes showers and toilets. Camping is free unless you require power, which is $5.50 per night.
