Take a dip in the Bogey Hole, a stunning ocean pool hand-carved by convict labor in 1819. Marvel at the convicts' amazing achievement as you swim in the pool while the waves crash against the rocks.
The Bogey Hole was constructed by order of Commandant James Morisset in about 1820 for his own personal use. Morisset was Commandant of Newcastle, New South Wales, from 1818 to 1823. He was a strict but fair leader, and he is credited with many improvements to the colony, including the construction of roads, bridges, and public buildings.
