About
Gollum's Pool is the name given to a waterfall in Tongariro National Park, New Zealand, that was used as a filming location for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is located on the Mangawhero River, near the town of Whakapapa. The pool is actually named Tawhai Falls, but it is better known as Gollum's Pool because of its appearance in the films. In the movies, Gollum is shown fishing in the pool, and it is also where Frodo and Sam have their first encounter with Faramir.
Tawhai Falls is a popular tourist destination, and visitors can swim in the pool or simply enjoy the views. The waterfall is also a popular spot for photographers.
To get to Tawhai Falls, follow the Mangawhero River Track from Whakapapa Village. The walk is about 3 km long and takes about 1 hour. The track is well-maintained and suitable for all fitness levels.
