    About

The 9 signs on this trail are an initiative of the Far South Coast Branch of the National Trust, Merrimans Local Aboriginal Land Council and Bermagui Primary School. They recognise the sacred places, legends, history and recent achievements of the Djiringanj Clan of the Yuin Nation who have been the custodians of this country for 40,000 to 50,000 years. The trail is 15 kilometres long; the location of the signs is marked with an orange Y on the Bermagui town map/services guide.

    Dickinson Point Headland

Starting from the Bermagui Visitor Information Centre, turn right out of the car park onto Bunga Street and at the T-intersection turn right again onto Lamont Street. Follow the road for about 300 metres, turn right into Pacific Drive and then left onto the gravel road on Dickinson Point. The sign is on the northern side of the headland looking towards Gulaga Mountain.

    Bilima Rock

Return to Pacific Drive, turn left and continue for approximately 250 metres to the picnic table on the left. Bilima Rock is a huge ochre coloured rock formation shaped like a sea turtle with its flippers in the sea, at the base of the cliff.

    Bermagui Sacred Waterhole

Turn back along Pacific Drive and turn left into Lamont Street. Follow the road for approximately 1.5 kilometres, taking the last left turn before the Bermagui River Bridge. Then turn left into West Street and left again into Hill Street. The sign is on the cul-de-sac at the end of the street overlooking the sacred waterhole.

    Koori Trading Routes

Return to and cross the Bermagui River Bridge, head north for 6 kilometres on Wallaga Lake Road to Fairhaven Point Way. The sign is on the left at the corner of the turn off to Fairhaven Point Way.

    Fairhaven Point Midden

Continue down Fairhaven Point Way for 1.5 kilometres and the sign is on the left when you reach the end of the sealed road, about 180 metres before the cul-de-sac at the end of the road.

    Murunna

Return to the T-intersection at Wallaga Lake Road and turn left. Travel north for 1.2 kilometres and take the right turn to Camel Rock Surf Beach. The sign for Murunna is located in the car park at the end of the road, beside the path to Murunna headland.

    Gulaga, the Mother Mountain

Return to the T-intersection at Wallaga Lake Road and turn right. Travel 800 metres and turn right into Lake View Drive at Wallaga Lake Heights. From the car park at the end of this road walk east along the lake's edge on the track to Murunna Point. The sign is 200 metres along this track at the small pavilion with carved posts.

Yuin Umbarra, Djiringanj Lands, Wallaga Lake & Merriman Island

Return to Wallaga Lake Road, turn right and continue for 1.5 kilometres to the rest area on the right immediately before Wallaga Lake Bridge. The sign is in the car park area near the amenities block.

    Najenuga

From the rest area turn right and cross the Wallaga Lake single lane bridge. Continue on this road, Bermagui Road, for 2.6 kilometres. The last trail sign is on your left about 750 metres past Youngs Road.

Sincere thanks also to Wallaga Lake-Bermagui Men's Shed for helping to install the signs, Mumbulla Foundation for partially funding this project and Bega Valley Shire Council for their support and encouragement.
