    About

A great place to explore, Paynes Ford is better known for its beautiful swimming holes and rock climbing than its fishing. Trout numbers are fairly low in the Takaka though the reach downstream can throw up some decent fishing at times.

This access point also provides access to the lower Waingaro — a tributary river worth a look.

Easier fishing access and water further downstream via Reilly Street in Takaka, or Long Plain Road (Kotinga bridge).

There is camping next to the lower Takaka River at Waitapu Road Bridge, which is known to hold decent sea run trout at times, and also a good place to target kahawai at the mouth. Fishing Regulations
