    About

The journey begins along a 4WD road as you set off on your walk. Initially, the road veers to the left, but your path continues to the right, faithfully following the guidance provided by signposts. This route offers a more direct ascent uphill. Approximately 600 meters into your hike, the walkway reconnects with the 4WD road, which then winds gently to the west, affording you a splendid vantage point overlooking Takaka Valley.

For a brief detour, venture up the road to reach a radio tower perched atop a knoll, sitting at an elevation of 950 meters. From this vantage point, you'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the upper Takaka Valley, Golden Bay, and the majestic Tasman Mountains, all nestled within Kahurangi National Park.

Continuing along the walkway, you'll descend around the highest point, navigating your way over rough marble terrain amid thickets of dense scrub. A bit further along the path, you'll enter a section of pristine native forest before arriving at a connecting track. This track leads you back to the 4WD road, providing an option to return to the car park.

Alternatively, should you wish to extend your adventure, forge ahead along the walkway. It meanders eastward, guiding you through a landscape featuring karst formations, scrublands, and beech forests. Eventually, it forms a loop, reconnecting with the 4WD road after covering a distance of 2 kilometres.

Throughout your journey, rest assured that the walkway is thoughtfully marked with clear signposts to keep you on the right path at all times.
