    About

The Waitara River, one of Taranaki’s largest, drains an extensive area of the Taranaki eastern hill country and often carries a high silt load. However the lower reaches downstream of the Manganui River confluence clear during low flow periods and can provide good fishing for brown trout, particularly in spring before the water gets too warm. Owing to the size of the river and its turbidity, spin fishing is the most productive method.
