Patea River
Fishing Spot in Taranaki, Taranaki New Zealand

FishingInteresting tips
The upper Patea River running through the town of Stratford provides good fishing for brown trout and in recent years rainbow trout have established from releases of hatchery fish for an annual kids’ trout fishing event at King Edward Park in the town centre. The fishing day is held in mid-December and the trout left over in the river provide ongoing opportunities over the Xmas period, which is ideal for youngsters getting into fishing. There is good river access from tracks within King Edward Park and along the Carrington Walkway between Juliet Street and Swansea Road.
