Kahikatea Campsite (self-contained only)

Number of powered sites - 18, including 4 sites suitable for large mobile homes/buses. Maximum number of people per site - 6. This campsite is only for certified self-contained motorhomes with a current Electrical Warrant of Fitness who want power. No other forms of camping are permitted.

As this campsite is for certified self-contained motorhomes, facilities are limited.

• Filtered water is available from taps around the campsite.
• Emergency toilets are located in the visitor centre carpark.
• Public payphone is located at the visitor Centre.

Walks in the Kauaeranga Valley range from easy, 20 minutes walks on well-formed tracks to the overnight Kauaeranga Kauri Trail. The Kahikatea Walk to a replica model dam is a 10 minute walk from the campsite. For more information:

• Campsite is for certified self-contained motorhomes who want to use powered sites.
• Motorhomes must have a current Electrical Warrant of Fitness (WOF) to be presented to visitor centre staff. If you don't have this, you won't be issued with a key to the power supply and no refunds will be given.
• Tents and caravans are not permitted, but are welcome at other campsites in the Kauaeranga Valley.
• Nearest shops and petrol stations in Thames.
• Nearest public dump station at BP - Stuart Moore Motors, 100 Banks Street, Thames, 8 km from the campsite.
• Limited mobile coverage in Kauaeranga Valley but a public pay phone is available at the visitor centre.
• No dogs. However, dogs are welcome at Hotoritori campsite and Booms Flat campsite, also in the Kauaeranga Valley.
• No fires during the fire ban that applies to the entire Coromandel Peninsula.
• Take all rubbish and black and grey water with you when you leave.
• Access to the campsite is no earlier than 2 pm and must be vacated by 11 am on day of departure.
• On arrival, check in at the Kauaeranga Visitor Centre to collect the key to access power at your site.
• If you are arriving outside visitor centre hours of 8:30 am to 4 pm, contact the staff during office hours on +64 7 867 9080 to arrange key collection.
