About
Orakei Korako Geothermal Park and Cave is a hidden gem located between Taupo and Rotorua on the banks of the Waikato River. This stunning geothermal park is home to a variety of geothermal features, including geysers, hot springs, sinter terraces, and waterfalls. It is also the only place in New Zealand where you can visit a geothermal cave.
There are up to 23 active geysers in the park, and they erupt throughout the day. Some of the most popular geysers include:
- Te Puia: This geyser erupts every 15-20 minutes, reaching heights of up to 20 meters.
- The Geyser of Rotomahana: This geyser erupts every 30-40 minutes and is known for its bright blue water.
- The Artist's Palette: This geyser is surrounded by colorful sinter terraces, which give it the appearance of an artist's palette. In addition to geysers, Orakei Korako is also home to a variety of other geothermal features, including: hot springs, colourful Sinter terraces and several waterfalls.
