Camping outside of the designated Responsible Camping Area is prohibited.

Cobden Bridge is one of three designated free campsite operated by the Grey District Council strictly for certified self contained vehicles only (you must have a self-containment warrant displayed, detail facing out, on your windscreen). You can stay a maximum of three nights. If you are non self-contained (i.e. Do not have a current self-containment warrant certifying your vehicle as meeting NZS 5465), then you can only freedom camp on any Council land that is more than 200m away from a formed (sealed, gravelled or otherwise modified) road. There is a dump station and water source here. Regular patrols are made by the council.
