Walked up here even though it was raining, wearing just skate shoes. Track is pretty good, the gravel helps with grip in the wet. I couldn’t see the scuttled Rainbow Warrior anywhere, because it’s been positioned at 34°58.50’S 173°56.10’E just past Motukawanui Island - I think you’d need binoculars to see it. It was nice to read the information board at the start of the track - it doesn’t pull any punches about the French Government’s terrorist attack on NZ soil, nor should it - it was a shameful act on a peaceful nation’s shores.
Absolutely worth of visit. There should be a museum for the Rainbow warrior. Bit disappointed that this seems to be a forgotten place. Very nice views. Steep 5-10 minute walk up the hill, bit muddy after rain. Have to walk through the camping ground or beach to the start of the track where you can find an info board.
Track slippery an in need of repair at view point long grass and decking rotting away and no information of where rainbow warrior is in relation to other islands near by. Sad really
To access this you are forced to enter the campground with a big sign that says no access to those who are not staying in the campground. I just walked in and ignored the sign but it didn't feel good for sure. To get to the track go past the camp office, turn left as soon as you enter pass the no access sign and walk towards the hill. Info panel at the start of the track. I'm sure if you asked at the office they would also let you pass hopefully
A nice view from the top. If you stay there at the campsite you should definitely go up there.
The beginning of the track is on the left, pass the campsite office and cross the campsite. At the beginning of the path there is an explanatory sign on the Rainbow warrior. Beautiful view at the top ?
Loved it, would recommend to anyone passing!
Was there in August and track perfectly fine. Steep, short and dry. No dangerous at all. Just don't go if it's raining. Really nice view. Worth it. Only takes 10 or 15 mins to go up
The track is really dangerous now, this is a slipery way to go on top, we went away after few minutes, sadly, but go for it if you have good shoes !!!
Beautiful monument in memory of the rainbow warrior attack. Beautiful view on the bay.
