The road was open. It is dog friendly. However, there is rodent poison laid out. So, be weary of that. Other than that it was a lovely walk through gorgeous bush and a cute little waterfall. I enjoyed it as there was no one else around
Was closed when we tried the other day.. :(
Road from Dunedin was open (August 2019). Steep hike up to a magical fern canyon. Didn’t do the waterfall and the “cave” was actually a canyon of sorts. Saw the glow worms at night (lights out so you don’t blind the little guys) and came back the next day to hike up the creek. HIGHLY recommend.
Road is closed if you come from Dunedin.
Its beautiful but PLEaSE! Respect them! Lots of people with the light on . Silence and enjoy the moment
We went off at night and first the bottles away high in the forest, that is, it is really hard to find, but when we arrived at the Glühwürmchen, it was really great! We also wanted to go to the waterfall (at night), which is not recommended, the way is really difficult in the dark as there are also several branches that are not signposted! Besides, you could not see anything at night.
Needs to be at night for glow worms, waterfall is cool but there's lots of forks in the track and easy to take the wrong route
Beautiful! We went to the waterfall by following the little river. Just go into the direction of the glow worms and walk until you arrive at the waterfall. Take a moment and enjoy the magical looking waterfall. Definitely worth looking at. Highly recommended.
Magic ! We were alone, it was an amazing moment, with undreds of glow worms. Go for it !
HIKING BOOTS LOST - forgot two pairs this morning at the off road parking just after the bridge. Came back 1.5 hrs later but somebody must have picked them up already. If you found them please give me a call under 02102261749! thank you :) GLOW WORMS were very beautiful last night. We went there around 9.15pm and first there were only a few to see. We waited a little bit and around 10pm there were a lot of them. You find them on the Walls of the "cave". Look also under the plants. Turn off your torches when you explore them cause they leave when it's to bright.
