Very interesting, a must for every Lord of the Rings fan, the entire staff is very helpful and polite, you can tell they love their work.
Absolutely worth seeing! 25$ for a 45 min long guided tour.
I'm a big LOTR fan so this was a must for my time in Wellington! The cave was cool to look around with all the costumes and props from the movies and loads of models and things for sale. There's a really great documentary you can watch for free that tells you the history of Weta and the movies they've been involved in etc. Really worth a watch and it's free. Then the studio tour is $25 and lasts for nearly an hour. Really cool to learn more about the design process and how they make all the amazing props and costumes and creatures. Our guide, Tom, was really enthusiastic and you could tell he loved his job. You're not allowed to take photos inside the studio, and obviously you can't see the main part of it, where they're working on new movies that haven't been released but it was still really worth it. I would love so much to work there!
The tour was interesting. It is rather general and not just about LOTR. You get a nice overview of the movies they have worked on and how they did it - quite impressive!
For Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fans a must! Small but interesting museum! Otherwise nice Sale Shop! One can buy the original "one-ring" for about $ 5,100! Everywhere stand around Scaled props! Perfect for photos
I have from the museum a bit more erwartet.Es is quite small and is rather used as a showroom. The trolls outside the entrance but were funny.
Although small museum but if you're a fan of the lords of the rings worth seeing more and admission is free. There is 20-30 min video about weta workshops caves, statues of trolls, gollum, ... Decorative replicas, costumes for sale ... but you have to pay the price !!
Expensive but amazing!!
The guided tour was very funny and also very interesting, it was worth the 25$. Unfortunately it's forbidden to take pictures though!
Really surprised anyone has said the tour wasn't worth it. We're massive LOTR/ Hobbit fans but even if not it is soooo interesting. To get such a close look into a company like that was fascinating. The cave itself is cool with all the memorabilia and the behind the scenes film is great. Talk to the staff- they know their stuff. Be aware there were large queues on our day. Maybe pays to book in advance.
