Honestamente uma caminhada tão épica, não perca esta! Tivemos um ótimo tempo e começamos no final por volta das 8 da manhã, caminhamos até o pico e depois voltamos para baixo, o que é um pouco mais difícil, mas significa que poderíamos estacionar na auto-estrada perto daquele fim de volta para a nossa van. Usar sapatos bons, trazer 1.5L ou mais de água, um monte de lanches e um pouco de creme solar também. É uma viagem longa com muitas inclinações, mas os caminhos são muito bons até a subida final para o pico onde você tem que abraçar o solo solto!
Fizemos a travessia no dia 6 de março. Para as pessoas que frequentam regularmente caminhadas alpinas, a excursão é longa, mas não difícil. Se você não tem bom equipamento ou nenhuma experiência de caminhada, esta excursão não é adequada. Tivemos -9 graus Celsius e um vento muito frio, forte. Guardas, chapéu, sapatos robustos e várias camadas de roupa são essenciais, mesmo no verão.

I was very surprised to see very few people carrying their 10+ essentials. Remember your Ts of hiking here folks. You are going up into the mountains. And volcanoes at that. This is not a stroll around a park. Today I saw lots of questionable footwear choices and then these are the people that wonder why they’re shitting their pants going down volcanic scree. Don’t want to be a harbinger but no one wants to be a SAR call (assuming you get cell service). The track itself was beautiful and mind blowing.

Absolutely incredible! L, especially at the moment with no tourists it’s so quiet. Highly recommend the parking with a shuttle to the start so there’s no pressure to catch a shuttle at the end. Take snacks, lunch, plenty of water and all the layers! You need full thermals, puffy, waterproof and decent walking shoes/boots, sun hat, wooly hat, gloves and suncream - believe me I used them all!

Very sweaty and long. Without the time pressure from the shuttle service, it would have taken us 9 hours (mid-20s). But the view is unbeatable on a sunny day.
The crossing was incredible. We did it on a windy day so started a little later (8:30am). Anyone is able to do this trek, if you take your time and know your limits. The winds at the top when we went were extremely dangerous to people who don’t have experience on loose surfaces, but if you are prepared you will be okay. The red crater and lakes are stunning and worth every step. Overall the trek was mildly difficult for us (average fitness, 19) and we finished it in 5 & 1/2 hrs with only one drink break as we didn’t want to stop in the windy parts. I definitely recommend this trip for everyone to do once in their lives and if there is anytime to do it, now is it. Usually in busy season there is around 5,000 people a day. We saw about 10. If you want to do it, do it now.
