Quiet, spacious. Clean toilets that smell good (rare for dry toilets). We could see a beautiful sunrise. Only a small negative point: the passage on the road next door (road and train). We still slept well!
This spot is right by the beach and offers beautiful evening and morning views. It is right next to a highway too, so street and ocean noise are present. I didn’t think it was too loud though. Classic longdrop toilets, they were clean when I was there. The ground is quite uneven, so you have to make sure to find a spot that won’t make you sleep at an angle. Lots of trees too, so I could imagine larger campers have to be careful here.
Beautiful spot for the night. No highway noise after 830 pm. And for all those people that complain about everything, this is a free campsite.
This place was really great, despite some of the mixed comments. You can park right up against the beach. The toilets are in good order and don't smell as bad as many of the other pit toilets do. It's only about 5 mins drive to the Moeraki Boulders or to Shag Point (loads of seals and sea lions here). The road isn't very busy at night so wasn't disturbed by road noise. Depending on how people park it could limit the number of spaces. But when we stayed there was probably 8 vans and was near full
A beautiful spots for a great night's sleep. I was able to watch the sunrise over the ocean without getting out of bed. Pit toilet stunk and loaded with flies. Trees proved some barrier from the road and ocean waves drowned out the infrequent traffic noise. I'd stay there again.
I have no idea why this spot is so highly praised. It's just a parking lot by the beach, but also right next to a noisy highway. The restrooms are also terrible. I've seen very few that were worse.
As below. Great place right on the beach. Great for even more than a night. Toilets are overworked, so best avoided if you are fully self contained.
Really special beachside camp with stunning sunset and we even saw a seal lion - all for free, what's not to like!
Great spot right on the beach. Fell asleep to the sounds of the surf. Room for about 8 vans. Pit toilets were fine.
