Fascinating place. Well worth a visit?
Nice short walk following ruins from gold mining. We enjoyed it and there is beautiful view! Nice thing to do if you are bored in Cromwell.
Very nice place with a view on the mountains (snowy then). Not the worst road in NZ, but can be avoided if there is frost or snow.
We drove there with a huge 7m camper but the road was scary. Nice area with great view but wouldn’t drive again with a huge camper.
Very nice and interesting walk, not too steep either ? Just be careful when you drive the gravel road, it's not very wide and people drive like crazy, we had to drive to the bush because some idiot didn't even bother to slow down
Road is fine. However, the "ghost town" is not worth the detour.
Absolute sh**. You drive up a very bad street. If there is a car coming down you have no chance passing it unless someone is driving into the field. And there are 4 near completely destroyed stone houses which are max. 2m long. The mining shafts are just holes not more. The tracks arent that good either you dont have a good view to be honest. The "school" is just one 5m chimney with a sign. Absolute not worth it. I wont recommend going up there. Save you fuel and dont drive up there.
The way there is not very good, but you can easily go with the camper (Toyota Hiace). Beautiful and interesting remnants from the time of the gold rush, in addition there are a few information signs. We liked it there.
Largely feasible in Campervans (Nissan Hong extension) and we even saw a camper ... Just know how to drive. Nice landscape and immersed in the period of the gold mines, it feels like wild west. Nice if you have the time otherwise it's not a must do,
Totally recommended! We were alone in the park. Nice view at the mountain and the Valley. The deserted mining town has a great atmosphere. However the gravel road is steep but is doable with a 2WD van.
