One of my favourite camps so far! Nice and central to New Plymouth so perfect for visiting the town especially the Festival of Lights! Staff were welcoming and helpful, and facilities were clean but fairly basic - as you'd expect from a budget camp. Worth noting campers can book the 'Tent site' listed on the website.
Not a budget camper spot at all. $35 per person per night for an unpowered, un allocated site with no amenities... We misread the website (we presumed $35 per camper which would be great for the budget site offered) We ended up booking a different campsite and got a beachfront pitch with power, dump station, clean toilets, water etc for less money. Please do your research! Also, extremely tight to get a van sized camper down the drive (it is also not the view of Taranaki as advertised)
Nice relaxing place to stay, no longer a BBH though. Everything was clean and worked well.
“Thank you for your kind comments.. We pride ourselves on cleanliness and treat our guests how we would want to be treated ourselves. Travel safely Gary”
Great place to stay, about a 25 minute walk to the city centre. Clean facilities. And Lynn, the manager, is the nicest person you'll meet, and she works so hard!
“Yes the lodge is lucky to have Lynnere the manager. She is always so helpful and goes above and beyond to assist you. Gary”
Nice accommodation and friendly manager. Clean kitchen and dorms. You have to pay extra for sheets and wifi.
“Hi thank you for your comments. All the doubles twins family rooms and some dorms are made up. Only the lowest priced or ' On Special " beds are unmade. Wifi is free on arrival.”
A good accommodation. The lady at the reception was super friendly. We got a room in a small cabin next to the main building. The room was rusty and cosy. The clean kitchen has everything you need.
Awesome hostel! Very friendly staff. Big dorm rooms (chalets) and dining area. Kitchen was very organized too. We got lucky because there were only 5 people in that hostel. HOWEVER there is a cat that wanders the grounds - the kitchen and dining area, and probably the laundry and dorm rooms. I'm allergic to cats so it reallllllllly sucked for me. So if you're allergic to cats avoid this hostel.
“Thank you for your feedback it is appreciated. Egmont our Cat has been with us for over ten years now and is part of the family. She is trained to stay in the main outside but at times some guests welcome her inside for some nice treats so it is difficult for us to manage . I take your comments on board and will endevour to be more alert for were she is in the future. Gary”
Very beautiful accomodation, since you're in the city but at the same time somehow away from it. The staff was friendly to us and everything is as you expect it from a hostel.
It was just fine for our stay, nothing impressive. On the night there was a guy who arrived to check in late around 10pm (he looks like been tracking the whole day & pretty tried) with booking in advanced. The manager went back home at around 8pm but yet she leave a notice saying that she'll be back in 20min, in fact she never came back since. On the notice she leave her contact number but it was not accessible. And there was no any instruction leave by manager to let him check in by himself. So the poor guy can't do anything other than waiting at the reception. At the end that guy gave up & called a taxi to send him to another backpacker. What a service!
“Good morning. Thank you for your comments. I am so sorry if there was any confusion on our part. Our office hours are clearly advertised for check in 5 pm to 9 pm evenings. Outside of these hours for check ins are available however have to be arranged prior to arrival. Our manager would of been on site between 8 pm and 9 pm within the Leisure Park. I'm sure if the desk buzzer was used she would of easily attended to him. However arriving outside our advertised hours at 10 pm without advising us is would not be in any ones best interests. Once again thank you for advising us of the situation and I as owner have enlarged our check in times so that they are more visable. regards Gary”
My friends and i stayed at the Eco lodge a few nights ago and we had the most unreal stay ever. The check-in was all good and we enjoyed the evening and night, but at 9am the manager Christina knocked on our door (as we were still sleeping) and wanted us to follow her into the kitchen. She was extremely angry and while we were still half-asleep, she accused us of stealing teabags from her shelf (that didn't have a sign), spreading flour all over it and not washing our dishes. We tried to explain to her that we didn't do any of the above but she just said "shut up" to me and asked us to leave immediately?! We had a long discussion and when the lady who checked us in said that there were other guests that might have left the mess, Christina started to realize that it maybe wasn't us and let us go. We went back to our room, still quite shocked about how a manager of a place can act like this with guest. Absolutely unbelievable, we definitely do not recommend to support a place like this and will also write an email to Taranaki Experience. We didn't see Christina after our conversation anymore so we didn't get an apology. Other things that are good to know: - you have to pay extra for wifi - towels are $3 - washing and dryer aren't working properly
“Thank you for your comments. I am pleased you had the most unreal stay ever ! I am Gary the owner and I am quiet upset how my staff manager treated you in this way. Christina has now finished her contract with us. This is not how we like our guests treated and this should never happen. I will be keeping a tighter rein on my new staff to make sure there is no repeat of your experience. Once again thank you for bringing this to my atention as I have tried very hard over the years to give my guests their best experience and have been voted New Plymouth's top budget accommodater for many years now.”
