This campsite is about 8 to 10km off the main highway, it is completely remote, no toilets, nothing so you HAVE to be totally self contained. We stayed one night, no one else around felt a bit weird. Perfect if you want to do a bit of stargazing, take a friend, it can get lonely at night 😏🤔 Chose your pitch carefully, don’t park too close to the water, some parts very uneven

Really beautiful spot, highly recommend for overnight stay.

Was super crowded and some people didn't stop playing music till after 11pm, hard to get kids to sleep. One toilet for the whole camp, wasn't the worst toilet. The river was high and fast so definitely no swimming. Location would be amazing outside peek times.

Big open field with a single drop toilet, wasn’t too bad. No bins. A LOT of flies/mosquitos. No signal, need to walk out to the top of the hill to make a call.

Absolutely amazing place, we were almost alone here, there are toilets, beautiful river and it is really quiet.

A wonderful freedom campground on the river. Easy to find and get to. Long drops and no water so prepare accordingly. If its nature your trying to get surrounded in this place is ideal.

Great little free spot between Napier and Taupo. Only five other vans there. Got a lovely spot right next to the river. Very peaceful. Two long drops which were fine but being loo paper. And drinking water. Overall, a great spot!

Awesome spot. Stayed here on the 29th of Dec. Was pretty busy but still had spots left. Quiet, on the river. Will stay again

Great spot, but don't tell everyone! Only had the one night here, but it was great. Even managed to catch a couple of brown trout. We'll be back.

Great area to stay. I have been there twice between mid January which was really busy but still a lot of places to park, and end of January. Clean toilets and a couple of swimming holes.
