Very worthwhile visit; the owners obviously knowledgeable and caring of the flora fauna and history of this unique area. The geckos being saved and cared for and the scientists access to the kauri indicate the family's genuine understanding of the significance of their park.

John is passionate to tell the fascinating story and deserves all the support we can give. He's open to park over. I agree, only eat organic avo, stop the expansion of industrial avo orchards draining the aquifers.

As said below it's a lovely place to visit!! The smell of the tea trees is so nice. A lot of information. I learned about the kauri gum. The owner has this reserve in his family since 1904 and tries to preserve it. Unfortenately the avocados orchards use pesticides and a lot of water. It's a threat to his reserve. Support him and plan a visit! (and buy only organic avocados ;))

One of the highlights of the Far North! You can see huge part of gumdiggers history in a walk next to big holes Dalmatians and Maoris dug with just a shovel and experience their way of living in primitive huts and open fire kitchen. Must have been a crazily hard life. And then you can see the kauri trunk old 100,000 years! Amazing and not to be missed!

From the 29th April 2019, Gumdiggers Park will be closed for winter maintanance,untill October 2019.

Fantastic experience! Worth the detour off the main road. Lots of signs posted through out the walk. The walk is lovely through the tea trees and a cool break from the hot sun. The gentleman was friendly and knowledgeable. Beautiful pieces of NZ Amber for sale. Be sure to rub the stone at the entry - your hands will smell lovely! It was $12.50 pp for us. Highly recommend.

Great stopover on the way north. Very friendly knowledgeable guy with lots of interesting tales about the history of the insurance kauri and fun diggers. Lovely picnic tables (after paying to get in) then an interesting walk around.

Please read instructions in front window of shop, the park is open 7 days per week.

3km down a gravel road to find it is closed.
