Always a pleasure to stay here . Lovely Family atmosphere . The facilities are 1st class .
Very nice staff. Cosy atmosphere and everything is very clean
Very unfriendly staff, very difficult to sleep in the night coz it's just beside the highway and extremely expensive price for a hostel like this.
The Hostel Manager and staff are very friendly and helped us enormously. The beds are lovely soft and the whole place even the kitchen is tidy all day.
Great hostel owner was super friendly. It's quiet and you basically get the whole place to yourself. It's not the cheapest but definitely worth it. Also they rent out climbing stuff if you want to go to castle hill and climb.
Most expensive place Ive stayed at in New Zealand ($33).. Facilities were ok, but my reasons for checking in they couldn't provide, or they would charge you extra for it. Feels like I got really ripped off here. Plus not the kind of place for a road tripping backpacker. Mostly families and workers in the place
$29 room no tent sites. Nice and clean and good book exchange. Good wifi. Arrived middle of summer and only a couple other guests, and some workers. I think it is maybe only busy in winter here.
Smylies YHA - From $29
Based on the reviews, Smylies YHA seems to be a clean and friendly hostel with a lovely atmosphere. It is praised for its hospitality, cleanliness, and amenities such as book exchange and good WiFi. Some guests appreciate the quiet location and the fact that it's not typically busy, making it a peaceful destination for travelers.
However, some reviews mention that the hostel may be expensive, with one reviewer citing it as the most expensive place they've stayed in New Zealand. Additionally, one review suggests that the hostel may not be suitable for road tripping backpackers, as it seems to cater more to families and workers.
Overall, Smylies YHA appears to be a solid choice for travelers who value a clean, quiet, and family-friendly environment, but may not be the best option for budget-conscious backpackers. If you're considering staying here, it's worth bearing in mind the potentially higher price point.
