Nice place. It's marked where you're allowed to freedom camp, space for at least 5 cars (depending how other have parked). Portaloos atm, the toilet is getting some repairs done. Drinking water next to playground, waste water drop when you continue forward on the road 100m. Stayed here for 3 nights and did some hikes up Hakarimata. Nice view when doing the stairs up to heli pad, during dark you might see glow worms.
Portaloos were fine when we stayed here and no trouble with locals. Lovely view would stay again
We’ve stayed here twice and it’s lovely! Right in a cute park with friendly locals, quiet (despite the comments about traffic which are just a few town people revving engines). I would definitely recommend this stop!
I wouldn’t stay here again.. it was quite scary at night. Locals were sitting in their car playing extremely loud music until late at night. There’s not toilets either, just portable toilets and they’re not pleasant. It’s quite a run down area. However, the river and the ducks were really sweet! It was nice facing the river but if you turn around it’s not nice at all.
Space for 7-8 smaller vehicles. The location is nice near the river and park, lots of ducks and people about. However, someone trashed the single working portoloo so much that it was unhealthy to enter. The other one was also permanently closed. The portoloos are used by both visitors to the park and campers, and by the time we arrived at 4pm (first camper of the night), they had already been trashed. A bit loud at night. OK place for a night but don't expect a usually toilet
Platz am Fluss, die Toiletten werden momentan umgebaut. Ein Spielplatz ist gegenüber mit einer Grillstation. Es gibt viele Bänke und Tische .
Bike rack with two bikes on it, stolen off the back of our van during the night :/
Good campsite. Quite safe and other people present at the area. Portable toilet but public toilet around 500m in town
Campsite was good, right beside a main bridge so lots of noise from passing trains and cars throughout the night. 1 portable toilet was probably the cleanest portaloo I have ever seen and the other was over flown. Pretty view of the river and didn’t have any issues with loud locals like other comments suggest
Good spot in terms of location - on waterfront, felt safe, close to the town and only 20 mins to Hamilton. Only X2 others there when arrived at 18:15, looks like enough space for 6/7 campers. Bit noisy with cars turning up most of night and trains. Also we heard a random alarm siren early in the morning too :s Toilets were dirty though!!
