Very warm, quirky, homely place. Great value for money and friendly owner! recommended
Absolute amazing hostel
Best place we've been so far on the west coast. Tidy and clean, cosy rooms, very friendly manager. Every penny spent was worth it
One of the best hostels we have ever stayed in. Super cozy African-inspired atmosphere a cute spa and sauna and a great value for your money!
Its a great Hostel! Clean, nice rooms, a great lounge and some spices and good kitchen staff. In addition you can use their kayaks and bikes for free.
A backpackers as it should be. Very nice kitchen & communal areas. Free kayaks and bikes. A friendly owner who gave us some good tips: cycling to sunset at the pier (we saw hectors!) and a very nice walk to point Elizabeth. We stayed in a tent for 22pp, which was quite expensive, but a fair price for all the facilities.
Travelled a year in NZ and this was definitely one of the best hostels I stayed in. Spacious dorm room, super clean, very nice kitchen and chill out area and all topped up with great african style atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it!

Global Village Hostel has mostly positive reviews with an average rating of good. Reviewers praise the hostel's cleanliness, friendly staff, and excellent facilities, including free WiFi, bikes, and kayaks. Many reviewers also appreciate the relaxing and chill-out atmosphere, with some noting the unique African-inspired decor and cozy lounges.
Some reviewers mention the high standards of cleanliness and maintenance, with one reviewer noting that the hostel is one of the cleanest they have stayed in. However, a few reviewers mention that the kitchen can be small and crowded during peak hours, and that the owner can be strict about rules and conditions.
A few reviewers have mixed experiences with the owner, with some finding them friendly and helpful, while others describe them as strict and even "nazi-like." One reviewer mentions that the owner was frustrated and unfriendly towards them, while another reviewer notes that they felt unwelcome.
Some reviewers have noted the extra cost of amenities such as the hot tub and sauna, with one reviewer suggesting that the extra charge is going into purchasing the artwork on the walls.
Overall, Global Village Hostel seems to be a great option for travelers looking for a clean, relaxed, and well-equipped place to stay, but the owner's attitude and strict rules may not suit everyone.
