Cuando fuimos, era muy tranquilo, un lugar hermoso y bien mantenido. Hubo algunos trabajos de mantenimiento a lo largo de la carretera cuando regresábamos por la mañana, y la carretera estaba cerrada para aquellos que iban hacia allí. Cuando fuimos, era alrededor de las 5pm y la carretera estaba abierta. Nuestro coche no es 4WD, pero con cuidado y mientras no haya lluvia, es manejable.
La carretera está bien para un camper pequeño que lo lleve lento. Lo hicimos en un Sprinter de 7m - pero no lo recomendaríamos si acabas de coger uno del aeropuerto y no estás familiarizado con vehículos más grandes. Esp en temporada alta. Los últimos 20km son despejados, apertados y apenas puedes arrastrar... y no puedes girar hasta medio camino - en ese punto has hecho la parte difícil.
Este campamento es asombroso. Nos dirigimos por la noche por lo que definitivamente no era tan fácil subir a la carretera, pero vale la pena. Nos dirigimos a un alto top hiace con NO 4WD y simplemente lo tomamos lentamente. La carretera está pavimentada a la mitad del camino, luego la carretera sucia, pero he tratado con peor. Uno de los mejores campamentos que he estado y volveré en verano!
Uno de los mejores campamentos libres que he tenido! ¡Tan tranquilo, hermosa naturaleza, montañas alrededor del campamento! El baño era muy limpio! La carretera no era tan malo como la gente escribió en los comentarios anteriores. Definitivamente recomiendo! Peel Ridge (5km) es una buena caminata y puede continuar a Lake Peel caminata (5km)
Es despejado y hermoso, pero no creo que valga la pena el viaje.
Really nice camp area. The long drop toilet was very clean while we were there. Road was well maintained few pot holes, typical kiwi road. We took a 2wd Van and really enjoyed our time. Sandflies were very intense in the morning but dropped away in the evening. Recommend taking your own firewood as there wasn't much dry wood around. Would definitely stay here again
Road in really poor condition . Very hard unless 4x4 vehicle. Definitely NOT for campervan or low clearance 2wd cars. Lots of slips and large rocks have fallen on the road. Campsite very muddy due to rain and someone has done wheelies all over the campsite and ripped it up. Great wilderness area otherwise. Toilet a smelly long drop. River water only source of water. Wekas will steal anything you put down for a. Moment cheeky sods
Pros: Beautiful spot nestled away in the mountains and I would say it is worth the drive in like others have said. Spectacular walks all around, and I recommend the Peels Ridge with beautiful views looking right up the valley. We were pretty much on our own every night except for 1 other camper who set up on the other side of the camp. Cons: We were in our 2WD L300 van and had to take it real easy on the very unsealed and pothole-ridden roads. There are quite literally thousands and thousands of sandflies, especially as it rained for 2 of the 3 days we were there. It was very humid too, so our van got very condensated and we ended up having to leave early so we could dry it out somewhere else. Overall it is a beautiful spot, but if you can try to go in nice weather as the rain makes everything soaked. And also bring insect repellent; you'll need it!
Awesome camping spot! Drop toilet was quite clean but a bit smelly. The road up is steep and can get quite corrugated and you will find quite a few potholes on your way ? Should be easy with a 4WD, take enough time with a 2WD
This place is Magic! Highly recommend if you are competent on NZ gravel roads. So many walks to keep you busy, we stayed 3 nights and definitely could have stayed longer.
