Beautiful walk! We walked along the lakeside and it took us about 50 mins to get to the lookout area. We walked back the way we came instead of walking the loop

We just did straight up and down as we didn’t have time to do the loop, but it was stunning on a clear day before the light disappeared. Amazing views

It was worth the trip up but we went along the long route - there was no clear signs showcasing that there are actually two different routes up. Can be a bit confusing. The long one is 8 km and 2 hours to the top whereas the short one is around 45 minutes. Mt John track which is easy and flat but longer and starts at the far end of the car park. The shorter track starts closer to the Hot pools. Would not recommend going the long route, however the view is nice without trees covering the lake.

We did the 1.5 hour loop around the top. It’s amazing and very easy to follow. Only about 20 mins of steep incline at the start. Easy walk with incredible views 10/10!

Is possible to leave the car until midnight? Or early morning? just want to make the walk to the summit observatory for sunset or sunrise.

I liked that very much. Steep, but always a great view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Up there is a nice coffee with nice waitresses and a wonderful view. Enjoy a leisurely break upstairs and enjoy the view in between 3 hours

Wonderful stroll in this beautiful country. Really liked this one. It was easy to follow and good ground. It is worth doing the whole loop if you got the time!
