Superb view for lunch and a refreshing swim. Bring good (wet) shoes and be in good physical condition for hiking. A reminder of good conduct for the "Kilian Jornets" of the hike... priority to those going uphill!!
Great walk. Incredible forest and lake view. We did it with our 7yr old, who is used to walk. Love NZ!!!
It took us about an hour and 15min to reach the lake. The hike was uphill and in unlevel terrein but it was not super hard. SO worth it! The lake is beautiful and the water was super cold but we went in the summer so we had to take a dive
This hike was amazing!!! If you have mobility and/or accessibility issues then skip. Steep hike with rocks and trees to go over, took the 1.5 hours up and about 1.15 hours back down. View were 360 amazing and totally worth the hike. Would do again. Would maybe skip if it raining.
This was probably our favourite hike of our two-week campvan trip around the South Island, hiking almost every day. We did it in two hours but were really powering it up to arrive while the sun was still there. Three hours is probably more accurate for a moderate pace. There’s a nice small waterfall and river 10 minutes in, and then it’s pretty much all uphill through the forest. We arrived just before the last light disappeared over the mountain. This made for spectacular photos (my partner who is an avid photographer was stoked). It’s so expansive and beautiful up there. If it weren’t already so late in the day I would have swam. I can imagine it would be a lovely place to spend some time during the day, swimming and picnicking by the grassy shore.
3 hours return is spot on! Loved every moment of this walk, some steep parts climbing tree roots. Lots of fun! Need a moderate level of fitness, or the right attitude to do it! Lake was beautiful, surrounding views exceptional!
Mmmm average walk, really steep, have to look down all the time as it is literally going up and down vertically through rocky path. Real ankle sprainer.... The lake on top is ok but considering we are in Fiordlands the hike wasn't worth the view. I do hikes fast with minimal gear, it took me approximately 2 hours going up (that's going fast) Doc says 1.30h not doable if you take your time. More a 3 hours up and 3 hours down.
2h round trip All the walking is in the forest, but it's really worth it because when you arrive at the lake, it's magnificent!
