About
Heaphy Campsite This is one of nine Great Walk campsites on the Heaphy Track. It overlooks the Heaphy River mouth, which is an exciting place. The river surges out through a narrow gap into the sea - incoming waves halt the flow and the churning of salt and fresh waters is spectacular. Limestone cliffs and lush tropical forest with nikau palms surround the area.
- Number of campers - 40
- Number of tent sites - 20 All campsites on the Heaphy Track have a water from a tap and toilets that are supplied with toilet paper; Heaphy Hut has a flush toilet. It also has sinks. Campers are not permitted to use hut facilities. Hut wardens move between nearby huts in the summer. As well as checking campsite bookings, they are able to provide campers with information about the track and weather.
Bookings are required year round for all huts and campsites on the Heaphy Track. See Fees and bookings.
In Aotearoa New Zealand DOC is focussed on protecting our nature, history and culture. We want to show visitors to public conservation land how to visit the Kiwi way.
