Nice! Naturally evolved in a great loop,same as comment below 2020. A few times I turned back. From Isobel carpark not many open views and the detour to a nice waterfall steep down and then back and continue to the ridge over difficult icy snow with superb views on both sides! For achievement to the main peak over the ridge and then down to the Jack's pass- surprisingly- easy,quick and dry winter option and return via road.
This track is old and the views are not as good as you expect. The waterfall was a great sight, but not worth. The very steep and slippery track that was nearly gone?took us 4.5 hours.
Walked up today - good thick layer of fresh snow which made walking easy but boots are needed, would be a bit daunting if it had turned to ice. Beautiful day in the sunshine and really enjoyable walk, 3 hours to the summit from the mt isobel carpark and then 2 back down jacks pass (this part was a lot steeper and heck of a slushie from the snow melt) From the bottom of the trail it was a 45 min walk back along the road to the carpark. Well worth the hike, we really enjoyed it! ??♀️?
Awesome walk! Good summit in winter on a nice day! (might be a bit hard after fresh snowfall, were only small lingering clumps when we did it). About a 4hr round trip. Amazing views.
Definitely start from the car park along the gravel road. Took 2 hours to get up the steep Forrest/rock climb then follow the orange poles for another 30 minutes to the summit. Go back down Jack’s Pass to either car park or waterfall trail. I do not recommend Jollies Road pass. Tough but the 360 view is worth it
At the moment the road (Clarence rd) is closed (from the 14th of May for at least 4 weeks) so you can not reach the summit from this side. However, you can reach the summit from the waterfall track. Just go to the waterfall and then continue up the hill. That part is very steep. But well worth it!! The view is amazing. Doc estimates the duration as 5-6 hours return. Did it in 3h20min with a lot of photo breaks.
Road is open only to go until the hammer spring waterfall. You cannot go until Mt isobel summit. You will have to start from the other path maybe 10 min fter on the gravel road.
Me and my 6 and 7 year old girls did this yesterday. Thunderstorms the previous night meant a lot of water running on the track but it was still safe, not muddy or slippery at all. Go on a clear day, we took the Mt Isobel carpark track there and returned same way. It took us 2 hrs up, 1.5 down. It is a technical hike, but was safe enough the climbing and scree areas from 3/4 the way up were not a problem if you just take care. Go to the summit it is a great rewarding hike!
Don’t take the Jack’s Pass road if you plan on starting from the 3 hour walk from Jack’s Pass. Clarence Valley road links up with Jack’s Pass road. We were unsure which way to go and so went the Jack’s Pass road to start off with and nearly got stuck on the steep part of the road that is heavily eroded on either side of the tyres.
I did this the day after after heavy rainfall which meant beautiful powder snow from about 1000m, managed in just walking boots and no walking sticks - it made the view even better!!
