Nice geothermal area. Silica terrasse with multiple colours. Boiling water and mud pools. Vents in the ground everywhere. No erupting geysers while we there.
An absolutely incredible park, very well laid out, explanatory panels in several languages, an interesting walk as well as significant geothermal activity. Friendly staff. I recommend !
Fantastic NZ wonderland. A must see and do. Free overnight parking if your fully SC and you visit this natural attraction. Cafe and food lovely after the walk. Great to support these lovely and friendly kiwis doing it hard without overseas visitors too
Stayed the night and next day went for a walk, was fantastic. You are allowed to stay the night if you buy the boat/walking trip.
Very nice walkway and beautiful scenery. Also the trip with the boat to the other river bank is nice.
“Thanks for your view, we are glad to hear you enjoyed it!”
I found a silver chain pendant (animal head) in the meadow and delivered it at the cash register.
“Thank you very much!”
$ 78 is expensive for the short crossing over the lake and the approximately 2.5 km long circuit through the mud pools and geysers. From 15:15 clock there was no more coffee, too bad!
“Es tut uns leid zu hören, dass der Kaffee aufgebraucht ist.”
Nice place but expensive (private place 39 dollars pp) beautiful setting, lake surrounded by mountains, beautiful terrace. Apart from that, if you have already done several geothermal sites, you do not need to go there. Quality landscaping and less people than in Rotorua.
“Thanks for your review!”
This place is awesome. Our daughter (3yo) said she never wanted to leave. A nice 2.5k walk through the most stunning geothermal features. This is the biggest collection of geothermal activity in one place I have ever seen. Well worth the price. And it is a family run operation, which in my opinion is even better.
“Thanks for your lovely review, we are glad to hear you enjoyed it so much, especially your daughter! Orakei Korako certainly has a lot of features - the largest silica terraces in NZ, 23 active geysers (more than any other NZ park), one of only two geothermal caves in the world and all the usual activity you might expect from a geothermal park.”
Expensive, but we would do it again & definitely prefer Waiotapu! Mot us were in the morning, little people so you had time to everything in peace to look & take pictures.
“Thanks your your review!”
