We tried to walk it after some heavy rain and the path was totally flooded and not passible around 2km in from the Rosie bay. Just to warn you :)
Don't go here if you're not looking to see dead possums. They're lying all over the roadside, and they're even skinned. Sometimes there are several in one spot. The traps are beside the path and sometimes even on it. We walked past a possum that was trapped but still alive... If you really want to get a creep, go there and look around carefully, and you're sure to see some. Tip: As soon as you smell the decay, keep your eyes open.
Nice walk! Please note this is a cemetery of possums
Lovely rambling bush walk with some beautiful big old trees. Probably took about 1 1/2 hours to the hydroplant at Kaiwaia. From there I carried on to the hydroplant carpark and continued up to the main gravel road and on to the caves. Not a particularly nice walk for the last section but makes for a shorter trip if you want to do a loop of the maori trail, caves, lous lookout and back to rosies bay.
