I thought it was very nice as a lotr fan! The gravel road (on the north side of the channel) was in good condition. My 2wd sleeper van (toyota estima) also survived the 200m rocky/sandy path that leads from the gravel road to the exact location

The official tour is permanently closed due to COVID, so this is the best view I could get. A little bit of a bumpy road but for a die-hard fan it was worth it to me!

Take the paved road to move forward quietly. Not the most beautiful landscapes of NZ, but a place full of cinematographic history!

Do NOT go. It’s a steep road (full of rocks) and it’s privately owned. So not worthy.

It’s really not much... It’s a nice area but there are better views. It’s really just fields.

I came here with a guided tour and I totally loved it! The place is beautiful albeit there's actually nothing to see. But the guide explains a lot about the movies and the filming locations! We could also dress like some of the movie characters, using official sword replicas and much more! I recommend it to every LOTR fun :)

Only worth the trouble for hard core LOTR fans.

Take the road along the canal and just contemplate this mountainous plain!
