Very quiet campsite. Down a long gravel pathway to get to- a bit bumpy but not too bad. Don’t trust Google Maps towards the end- just follow the signs to Urchin Campsite when you start seeing them rather than your online maps. One toilet, need to take your own loo roll

Great spot, secluded and enough space. Close to Tongariro Crossing which is why most people were there. Easy to find, Apple Maps took us all the way (some people have said Google doesn’t take you there) but there’s lots of signs to guide you. Quite a few flies about but it is in a jungle glade so just sprayed up. One toilet (long drop) which was fine, just take your own toilet roll and hand sanitizer

Good little spot as a free option close to Tongariro. Follow Google maps most of the way (100km/h road and right onto the 70km/h road) the there is a bit sign to the right with "Urchin campsite" on it, ignore Google there and follow the signs. The gravel took us about 7 minutes and 20 minutes total to the Tongariro parking lot. Mind that driving the gravel in the dark is a bit scary

Great spot with loads of space. Toilet was fine and there was even a spot to make a fire. The road leading up to it was closed after 7pm for roadworks but we spoke to some of the workers who let us through.

Great spot! Secluded and peaceful! Do not follow google maps! There is a sign on the road to the right, follow that! To reach Urchin Campground you must continue for about 10 minutes on the gravel road, which is doable for most vehicles! There are multiple smaller campground on the same road before reaching Urchin, for those who did not find a spot there! We stayed here before and after the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and it was only a 20 minutes drive to the shuttle car park!

Do not follow Google Maps until the end. Approximately 2 minutes before there is a sign on the right side. Turn right there onto the gravel road.

Beautiful spot. Public toilet available. Got cold at night. Last part of the road access through gravel road with some two steep short climbs. Low signal

Lovely little spot 15 minutes of SH1. Last few kms is gravel road, but do-able in most vehicles at a slow pace (road is narrow and windy at times, so might not be suitable to very large campervans, or vehicles towing trailers). Was nearly full when I arrived (6pm) but I still found a little spot. Definitely come early during holidays to avoid disappointment. Toilet is not bad for a long drop, but doesn't have a skylight so bring a torch/lamp. BYO toilet paper. Patchy signal (2degrees)

Very remote place inside forest, bumpy road around 5 km, few spaces for parking, long drop toilet, it is clean, no signal.

Khu cắm trại trong một khu nghỉ mát, rất yên tĩnh. Trái đất không phải là rất phẳng, nhưng có một vài điểm phẳng. Một nhà vệ sinh hố là một điểm cộng. Con đường đến khu cắm trại này là hẹp và khó khăn, nhưng có thể quản lý ở một tốc độ chậm.
