Unfortunately the gemstone museum is permanently closed. You can still find stones on the beach, just don't drive onto it and look out for nesting birds- they are rare and endangered- keep dogs on leads or away altogether is better at nesting time.

A perfect place to stop along the way! It’s a very cosy spot, full of hand-painted stones and lovely decorations everywhere. You can even paint your own stone and leave it with all the others in a special display area, which we really enjoyed! They accept voluntary donations, but it’s completely free. We love and really appreciate initiatives like this. We highly recommend it!

Peaceful environment, no crowds, bird chirping everywhere, clean kitchen and toilet, great warm shower..best campground in South NZ❤️❤️🫰🏼..loving it

Marcus was a gentleman. He was more than helpful in getting us set up as we arrived later in the evening. The site is very unique and offers small trails up a hill close by which has a fabulous view of lake Forsyth. The site gives a rustic and warm vibe and is a lovely spot to switch off and be with nature. It has basic drop toilets and hot showers. Just make sure you bring 2$ coins for hot showers.
