Sometimes you read reviews and think it can't be that bad. Well I can say the reviews about the mosquitos are, if anything understated. I think someone must be actively breeding them in some sort of mosquito style farm near by. Hell on earth... But nice spot if not for the bugs.
I couldn’t even get out of my van. Mosquitos are everywhere but here there were too many!
Lots of biting mosquitoes that will leave you scratching for weeks. They also swarm you.
Lots of mosquitos.
A lot of insects, no running water, a trust box and smelly toilets.
Stayed here twice, toilet was unusable as covered in bugs and ants. Also, you will get eaten alive by mosquitoes but good location. Walk from campsite was closed unfortunately.
Bring insect repellent, you’ll get eaten otherwise! Otherwise super easy to find and very basic. Nice to have plenty of picnic tables
After exploring Kakadu & paying $40pp to even enter the park, I’ve stayed in free rest areas better than this site. I think it should be free or donation only. You’ll pay $15pppn at Merl campground & all you’re really paying for is a shower & flush toilet. Very pricey! We weren’t impressed with the facilities after paying our $80 entry fee. Karijini puts this park to shame!
Mosquitos!! Dirty toilets but such limited options in Kakadu to camp
We had the site to ourselves in an RV. Lots of people at the one next door tho. It was fine as we are self contained. There is a toilet block and fireplaces scattered around with benches and tables. The billabong is beautiful but be careful of crocs. Warning tho the mosquitoes are unbelievable! Never seen so many so we went to bed lathered in repellent as they filled our van. Don’t go without repellent
