Wish we’d researched more about this road before driving and towing. This road had the WORST corrugations we have ever experienced (worse than the Cape) and we blew a tyre on our offroad caravan. We have a very capable 4wd that handles corrugations very well but it was still terrible. I would recommend going to Kings Canyon and then taking the main road around to get to the West MacDonnell Ranges. Most people travelled around 40-60km/h the whole time. The road was not a short cut.

This loop is completely gravel road only 4WD. From Alice Springs to Kings Canyon please check your vehicle is 4WD and you have a permit to drive on Mereenie loop.
